Domaine du Closel Savennieres "Le Clos du Papillon" 2005
This estate was inherited in 1961 by Michèle de Jessey from her aunt,
Madame du Closel, because of her love and respect for wine. Michèle
later went on to become the first woman in France to be President of an
Appellation ContrĂ´lĂŠe. The estate consists of 12 hectares of Chenin
Blanc vines, 4 hectares of which are in the Clos du Papillon. The soil
is shallow sandy topsoil on a deep bed of schist and volcanic rock. A
beautiful expression of the Chenin Blanc grape in an off dry style, the
wine is filled with lemon-lime accents, mineral and stoney notes, and
butressed by bright acidity. Wow!
